SPILSBY THEATRE
Spilsby is a successful small theatre offering a lively programme of local and international musicians, theatre and workshops. It is housed in a grade 2 listed former courthouse saved by the Dandelion Trust from becoming a grain store.
About Spilsby Theatre
Rescued in 1988 by the Dandelion Trust and developed into a flourishing arts venue, the reputation of Spilsby Theatre is growing steadily as an innovative theatre providing an exciting and different approach to integrating opportunities for the able, disabled, elderly, young and the community at large.
Spilsby theatre attracts musicians from all over the world – recent highlights have included Stella Chiweshe, 'the queen of the mbira', playing music passed on down through the generations for thousands of years by the Shona people; Firebrand, a band who play Irish, Breton, Galician, Welsh traditional music, creating rich layers of sound with an awesome collection of instruments; Quimanto, from Chile; and acclaimed singer/songwriter Nick Harper.
Spilsby is also keen to support local arts initiatives: it is the host for the finals of BBC Radio Lincolnshire's annual folk song competition, the Spilsby writers' group and is the rehearsal space ofchoice for local musicians and groups.
